What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi (TaijiQuan) is a Chinese martial art that originated over 400 years ago. Its slow, flowing movements have helped many people with flexibility, balance, and finding mental calmness through focus, breathing, and slow, deliberate movements. Tai Chi has also been reported to reduce stress, anxiety, and blood pressure, as well as improving quality of life by contributing to health aging. It has been described as “moving meditation”. Tai Chi is practiced all over the world, by people of all ages and physical abilities.
There are five MAIN styles of Tai Chi. They are Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun, and Wu Hao. Each style has its own history, philosophy, and merit. Yang is the most popular style worldwide. At B.E.S.T., we teach programs under Tai Chi for Health Institute, which have choreographed moves that focus on Chen, Yang, and Sun styles. We practice in standing position, but chairs are also available to modify, if necessary.
At B.E.S.T., we are currently practicing Tai Chi for Arthritis, which is one of only two Tai Chi programs endorsed by the CDC.
